Landowners in Kerala are now equally liable with builders for incomplete housing projects if they are financially involved. The Kerala Real Estate Regulatory Authority (K-RERA) ruled that landowners actively participating in finances or profit-sharing will be treated as ‘joint promoters’. This landmark decision follows a case where a landowner mortgaged project land for a loan, defaulting and impacting homebuyers.
